The mediating role of problematic social media use in the relationship between social avoidance/distress and self-esteem

The number of social media users in Bangladesh is increasing every year. Young people – mainly college and university students are the heavy it. Problematic use (PSMU) has received research attention over past decade. However, there very few studies concerning PSMU Bangladesh. present study examined role relationship between avoidance/distress self-esteem. comprised a sample 370 from University Chittagong (Bangladesh). Participants were administered survey including questions regarding socio-demographics, Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Rosenberg Self-Esteem (RSES), Avoidance Distress (SADS). Results showed that partially mediated self-esteem, while predicted level had non-significant influence on these two variables self-esteem avoidance/distress.
